After seven years since the last reunion on September 17, 2016, at Port Dickson Golf & Country Club, the seventh reunion in conjunction with the 33rd anniversary of commissioning was successfully organized at the Army Officer’s Recreation Club (AROC), Kem Terendak, Melaka. This desire arose during a mini reunion, gathering, and Hari Raya celebration held on May 14, 2023, at Hotel Tenera Bangi. The initial plan to organize it in August was postponed to September due to duty and activity constraints.
Similar to previous reunions, the standard format involved a 2-day family reunion to provide an opportunity for gathering and friendly interaction, including a BBQ event on the first day, followed by sports and a lunch event the next day. Golf games were also planned for the first or second day, depending on convenience.
A significant difference in this reunion was that the intake 54 cohort had reached an age beyond half a century. Members ranged from 52 to approaching senior citizenship. Some had achieved the status of Datuk and had grandchildren, while many had married with teenage and adult children.
This gathering provided a beautiful moment to reminisce about the past during the Cadet Training at the Royal Military College from 1989 until commissioning into various Army Corps on August 4, 1990.
Efforts to locate surviving trainers were diligently carried out. We were deeply moved by the presence of Major (B) Taheer and Lieutenant Colonel (B) Abd Razak, former officer trainers from the cadet training 33 years ago, who generously spent their valuable time participating in this reunion.
The event commenced with a Dinner and BBQ Night accompanied by the D Elektra band. Congratulations to those involved in preparing delicious and appetizing food. The next day, the cohorts and families gathered again for a provided breakfast, continuing endless conversations. Subsequently, by the beach, the event of releasing turtle hatchlings into the sea was carried out in collaboration with the Turtle Conservation and Information Center, Melaka. This was followed by two simultaneous events, with some engaging in golf at the Bukit Terendak Golf Club, and others, along with their families, participating in a beachside sports and games event.
The joy and excitement of the cohorts and their families were evident in the activities meticulously planned and provided by the organizing team. Before lunch, a brief tahlil was conducted, dedicated especially to some members of intake 54 and former trainers who had passed away. Prayers were also offered for Skot Saleh, who was ill due to a stroke for about 2 years. His wife also managed to attend from Kuantan.
The final event was a delightful lunch followed by a group photo session. Before bidding farewell, we took the opportunity to gather and discuss various issues and matters related to the TJP 54 Association.
That’s the brief summary of the sweet stories and events that were planned and successfully executed. All members and the extended family of intake 54 would like to express millions of heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making this reunion a success. Highest appreciation to the organizing committee, especially Kamarul’s team, who worked tirelessly in coordinating meetings with the involved teams and monitoring the preparations. Thanks to AORC for arranging accommodation in guest houses and nearby facilities. Some cohorts also arranged their own accommodations in the vicinity. The entire Intake 54 expresses infinite gratitude to Skot Rashidin, also the Commander of the 3rd Division, Kem Terendak, who hosted this reunion and sponsored the gifts.
